So you’re ready to buy a house, now what?  There’s a list of items that you will need to have in order before you begin.  Stick around, we’ll inform you of everything you’ll need! has some great pointers to get you ready

Step 1: Start Your Research Early

Hop on your computer and start researching types of homes you like and what kind of homes are in your area.  Newer vs. old, south of town vs north of town, etc. You get the idea.  There can be so many options, especially here in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Maybe take an afternoon to drive through neighborhoods and pick out favorites.  It will also get you excited thinking about the possibilities of your new home! Keep in mind your financial situation when touring neighborhoods.

Step 2: Determine How Much House You Can Afford

Lenders generally recommend that people look for homes that cost no more than three to five times their annual household income if they plan to make a 20% down payment and have a moderate amount of other debt. Unable to put that much down? There are tons of options out there for you!  Find a mortgage lender to work for you to get the best plan available.

Step 3: Get Prequalified and Preapproved for credit for Your Mortgage

Before you start looking for a home, you will need to know how much you can actually spend. Chris Sims from Anytime Mortgage here in Fargo, states “One of the first steps in purchasing your home, is to get that pre-approval letter.  This will allow you to know what price zone you can shop in.” For a pre-approval, you will need to provide financial information such as income, savings and investments. To get fully approved you'll need to submit those bank statements and other financial information. The Fargo and Bismarck areas have lots of options to choose for mortgage companies.  A good resource to ask is your realtor!  Our agents here at the Brandenburg Crew have awesome relationships with lenders in town so they'll be able to steer you in the right direction.
